You Are Here:Chess FIDE anti-cheating project

FIDE is the main organization unifying millions chess players and hundreds grandmasters in the World.

Since the computer managed to battle the world champion (Kasparov and then Kramnik), a big temptation exists for every chess player: to cheat by means of technical devices (computers linked with radio modems and micro radio receptors).

That is really not fair play, but some cases arrive from time to time even in big tournaments. To eliminate this possibilities exist the anti-cheating FIDE committee that uses all the possible means to struggle against this chess doping. There are some known methods: after game offline moves verification, noising the radio propagation, anti metal control, etc.

My participation in project.

Practice of chess cheating proves that the most popular mean to cheat is to transmit the information from invisible place to the player by means of the radio waves.

For this hypothesis the model of information transmission has been elaborated. Then the micro receiver (10 mm) could be used.

We have analysed,

  • how many bits we need to transmit such the chess move
  • which Tx power must be enough to be able to receive with micro Receiver
  • which sensitivity has the industrial micro receiver
  • which kind of noise generator do we need to be sure that the receiver will not be able to demodulate the useful signal

Main results.

  • The report in Power Point has been prepared and presented to FIDE anti cheating Committee.
  • The model of most probable cheating has been explained.
  • The probable solution to noise the useful signal has been proposed (white noise generators).
